Audio Movie Reviews: League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen - October 30, 2009

The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen, Volume 3 Issue 9: Horror Film I guess the original intent was to bring more TV into this as well, but as it turned out, we ended up with two and a half hours of blood drenched movie madness with most of the crew...and CO-HOST!!! Check it...

High Tension was a good movie. If you're wondering it was the father who got killed by the dresser. The ending didn't really bother me too mush it was actually an awesome twist. It kept me on edge the entire time. I wasn't actually scared of Bram Strokers Dracula mostly because I'm not into romance like that and Dracula's hair doo was just funny to me.

Cyrus is Awesome, as usual! The Exorcist and Paranormal Activities! YES! Everybody else can "Suck It"! Great F%cking show by the way.

Wait. How does Resurrection shit make Rob Zombie's shit any less shit. It's still shit.

Thank you, Jason, for defending Rob Zombie's Halloween! You have balls, sir, and I thank you for giving the minority a voice. I don't see how people can complain about them when they got away with such bullshit with Resurrection.

I'd also add that the "emo vampire" schtick is at least a century or more old. Anne Rice and the Twilight books didn't invent it. They just recycled it. Blame penny dreadfuls like Varney the Vampire.

Beau and Kayne West. An interrupting battle for the ages.

this is the 4th time listening, I can't say what is the greatest horror movie was. But nothing impacted society like JAWS and the EXORCIST, I'm old LOL! I was there, No one went to the beach that summer. and people passed out and through up in the theater. No movie since had that kind of reaction...

Fungusmonkey: Thank you, I totally stand corrected. Teen Wolf Too does trump Teen Wolf. Plus it stars Jason Bateman's dad, who shall forever be known as Jason Bateman's dad. Allison and Sinshenlong: Would you both recommend the Jim Butcher Dresden Files books? I was honestly about 10 seconds from buying Storm Front a few days ago, but finally decided to go with something that was compared to Neil Gaiman's works. I'm always looking for good sc-fi novel suggestion.

Don't think you guys mentioned the vampire/zombie-ish movie Lifeforce. How can you go wrong with hot naked space vampires? As far as the Halloween series, there was one that brought up some cult thing that apparently Myers was a part of which to me explained how he was able to withstand everything that happened to him. To bad they never mentioned it after that.

Scarecrow: Really? All caps? Bold? Really? We already mentioned Rocky Horror on another show in which we were discussing cult films, a more appropriate place to talk about it. And I've already stated this several times: People, when the LEOG answers questions it's usually what is OUR favorite movie within said genre. Would you prefer that we just spend 2 hours doing nothing but listing movies that might possibly fit into this genre. No. The appropriate response in the comments sections is "Hey Leog, I really like the Rocky Horror Picture Show!". Try and keep trollish behavior to a minimum, thanks.

@sinshenlong : I love the Dresden books, and yes, that's a little more of what I was looking for! Like, wow! I can do anything my id wants... I think it would take a lot of self-control to resist that power (like Dresden describes). And yes, it's out of your control... but that's kind of neat? Like, the devil made me do it! If Jim Baker can use that excuse, so should my werewolf! @Azusa Ito : I have to stop watching movies all the time! And if I am watching them at night, I have to follow them up with a comedy or a cartoon or something... just to get my mind off of the horror....THE HORROR!!!! @Brandon Mac $hawn : Whatever you want to say about the movie, the vampires in 30 Days of Night are scary as all hell! That's more like it. @Timmy Cupcakes : I second that emotion! Kayla rocks.

I beg to disagree Timmy Cupcakes. Teen Wolf is nothing in comparison to the brilliant and subtle Teen Wolf Two. Oh yes, who needs an allegory likening lycantrophy to puberty and the pains of adolescence when you can have three simple little words: WEREWOLF. MOTHERFUCKING. BOXING. I rest my case. Good day sir.

Mainly because we were talking about Horror movies and not Halloween movies specifically. And because Rocky Horror is: a) a parody. Nothing wrong with this but if we were gonna go there I'd mention Young Frankenstein WAY before Rocky. b)more appropriate to a discussion of Cult movies or Camp than to horror. c)taking place in November-and the dressing up and seeing the movie part is year round. So yeah-we didn't mention it. Just like we didn't mention a lot of things. Just like we will never be able to mention everything about a genre. Sorry.

HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GO AN ENTIRE HALLOWEEN EPISODE WITHOUT MENTIONING THE FUCKING ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW!!! BASTARDS!

Movie that ceeps me out....... Alien. Just the idea of things popping out of you. Must watch on Halloween: The Wolf Man. Love every minute of it. But after this year, I'm adding Trick 'r Treat to my must watch list.

The movie Kayla is talking about with the booger monster is Rock n Roll Nightmare with John Mikl Thor

Eh. I called it both the Monster and Frankenstein. After all that beer you're lucky I didn't call it bolty-neck.

-Haha, Kayla is a rare treasure on these podcasts. Love it. -What's up with the lack of love for Teen Wolf, it is the best werewolf movie ever. -If any 1990's Chicago Bull was a vampire it would actually be the Croatian sensation, aka The Waiter, Tony Kukoc, not Dennis Rodman (but that little outburst did cause me to laugh hysterically in the middle of my office). -And finally, I almost cried (sad tears) after hearing Beau make the biggest horror movie reference mistake and refer to Frankenstein's monster as Frankenstein. Say it ain't so Beau!!!!!

Oh, that's right, I forgot about Ghostwriter! My favorite Horror film made before the 1970's is "Phycho" or maybe "The Birds". Hitchcock was awesome!

Thank you Leon for mentioning "The Howling". I was wanting to bang my head against my monitor you guys were taking so long to bring it up. Thank you to the L.E.O.G members that said Rob Zombie's movies weren't all that great. One last thing, I think it was Alison that wanted Werewolf transformations to be more pleasurable, I don't think that works on film. Usually Werewolf transformations are a thing that the transformer dosn't want happening or can't help it happening. I beleive showing pain in the transformation reveals how terrorfying the inner monster is. I know that some transformations seem orgasmic, but film makers will do that because sex sells.

This episode is so amazing. I agree I hate what they doing with vampires. They made them into a bunch of high school cry babies. I can't believe someone mention Silver Bullet. I like that movie. I do think horror movies went down in these last ten years. It was disappointing.

@Anthony. Yeah, this one did spin a little out of control. It's been awhile since we had the FULL league there. Like Allison said, stay tuned, we can behave ourselves better. :)
