I am still not sure on this movie.. The commercials gave of the miss conception of a video game. I may still see it but only when it comes out on rentals.

I loved this movie I agree with all of you at points, Cyrus for the full price and the reason for not a lot of back story. But I also say that this was short I really liked it and felt a lot for the little stitch-punks and when it ended I was like "IT'S OVER!?!? WHY!?!" I still gotta say it was awesome! But please Korey, put up the audio for this!

Just from reading a brief plot synopsis on Wikipedia, "Nine"s story has little to no internal logic. (Possible spoilers) We go from a totalitarian Orwellian government, to killer robots, to magic. Tim Burton's pulled off weirder material with flying colors, such as "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands", but I have my doubts.

Saw it a couple of days ago and liked it. I agree with some points you guys make: the story wasn't very complex, and the ending could have been a bit better. But on a visual scale, this film is spectacular. That alone is a reason to see it. The voice acting was also fairly well done. I didn't love this movie, but I enjoyed it for what is was: an intriguing post-apocalyptic movie with a very interesting set-up. High Matinee

Saw it today and I have to agree with the guys on some of their points. but the two main points i agree completely were the length of the film and the ending. Didn't hate it since I like the direction it took but I also felt that there was so much more the director and crew could have done. I go with matinee or a high rental since it's a movie you can see and be curious about it but it's nothing too new and exciting.

I saw this movie a couple weeks ago and it was okay, but it was typical and it kind of made me mad. So, I'm not going to see it again, but I would give it a Matinee.

I donno about this....the trailer made it look like a bunch of action sequences and some amped up music. They have some good actors doing the voices of the characters which is cool, but it still doesn't look like anything that would bring me to the theater to watch it. >Movie Questions

The story didn't make any sense to me. Clocking in at 79 (!) minutes, you think they would have spent, oh, 11 minutes fleshing out the story. The ending sucked. I'm sure it was supposed to be meaningful, but since I didn't give a rat's ass about a single one of these characters (and it is the story's job to make me care), it didn't mean anything. And another thing, why was it that every time the sack-bots ran away from something, once they were safe, they stopped to catched their breath? They are fucking robots! Did the damn scientist give 'em LUNGS to go with the soul? I don't care how great a movie looks, if it's not backed up by a decent, intelligent story, then it's a complete waste of time. If you want to go somewhwere and spend money to look at pretty pictures without any kind of story, go to a damn museum. Some 'Ol Bullshit!

9, for its scale, is a pretty tightly fashioned action movie. The Spill crew is correct that the basic premise for the story is based on the dystopia envisioned in Terminator, where man’s insatiable appetite for better technology produces artificial intelligence that is self-aware, and this autonomy, coupled with man’s militaristic aims, causes the machines to turn on its creator. It is up to that point that the 9 can be compared to Terminator. After that, the comparison falls apart. In the post apocalyptic world of 9, unlike Terminator, all of humanity has been vanquished, and only potato sack replicas, imbued with the spirit of their inventor, are left to continue man’s legacy. The inventor’s spirit is manifest in literally 9 potato sack figures, who must decimate the last machines that are hell bent on their annihilation. The movie only gives a cursory glimpse into the back-story that culminated in the current world devoid of humans we are seeing. The bulk of the film follows the 9th potato sack character, as he discovers his counterparts, and compels his counterparts to come out from hiding and defeat the machines that have been such a menace to them. Granted, the story line is almost skeleton like in its simplicity, but the movie makes up for that in superb animation. To make potato sacks life like is one thing which I have never seen done, but to make CG created potato sacks look life like is quite a unique feat. The action sequences were engaging, and they really made you feel like you were immersed in the conflict. Its sad to say that a simple little film like this, with purely non-live action, was a far better action film than this year’s chaotic “Gamer”. If you are looking for a great storyline, don’t see this film. If you are looking for some unique animation, which doesn’t try to wow you with trying to make people or toys look life like, then this movie is for you.

this movie was so goddamnd boring... i actually feel asleep for about 30 minutes.... I HAVENT SLEPT IN A MOVIE THEATER IN YEARS... this movie was not nearly epic enough to warrant the use of "welcome Home" as the trailer song.

I really enjoyed this movie, right up to the first 'ending'. I thought they could have left it there, and it would have been full price for me. BUT.....they kept going. They felt this strange need to almost justify a lot of what they did earlier, and nearly ruined it for me. This is another one of those movies that suffers from going for about fifteen to twenty minutes to long.

I went to an early Sunday show for kicks, which costs less than a matinee, I guess. For the price it was okay. Decent graphics (the humans are not so good), okay story, needlessly spiritual undertones that alone should warrant a bullshit rating (the weight the movie gives to "souls" suggests that the movie tries unsuccessfully to be smarter than it is, or the writers didn't care at all about the storyline because it feels very rushed). Overall it didn't piss me off enough to get me to hate it. A meh matinee is as good a rating this film could ever hope for.

This is an amazing idea. I cant wait to see it. The animation is outstanding and it takes it to the next level, beyond what pixar can or has done. Love it! Ashley :) >Movie Trivia

I didnt see this movie because alot of my friends say they didnt really like it as much and it was more weird than entertaining. So instead of seein it alone we all went to see Shorts. That movie sucked Dragon ballz! Who ever made that movie I wanna punch him in the face.

By the way, you guys really need to change the theme song to "I ain't got $9.50 to pay"...of course by the time you do another review it'll probably hit the 10 marker, in which point I'll have to resort to pure piracy.

I really liked this movie, and the visuals and sequences were great, but the dialogue was stale beyond belief, and it really held back on some of the things that could have made it a truly great movie. I give it a low Full Price myself, just because it's something fresh and new in a mundane movie world where it's all about the money. Better dialogue and this would've been in my top 100, guaranteed.

The ending killed me though....it sucked. And did anyone feel there was alot of Lord of the Rings in this film?

September 12, 2009 at 11:46 PM, Mouse said ...

I think while the movie was visually rich, its story wasn't. The "scary" factor was actually very different from any other animated movie i've seen, and in that sense I think thats what makes this film stand out. However the characters and the story was weak. The idea of souls locked in the little creatures was really cool, i just feel they didn't really go to deep into that concept. What i did like about the movie was, it was clearly oriented to an older audience, showing dead people and scary demented creature. I'm really glad to see this, we need more animated films for adults.
