Saw this Yesterday. It was way to complicated for kids maybe this wasn't suppose to be a kids movie. I think the pacing was good, but I feel like something needed to be resolve at the end and maybe had something of a little longer ending with Max's mom. Shoulda cut out the dirt clod fight to a minimum. I'd say rental and it would be good for a Child Psych college class to dissect as a project.

Rental - I really liked the music and the scenery, but the movie was very slow. Definitely not a kids movie. Kids attention spans can not handle this movie and when you have a lot of kids in the movie theater, it's going to make for an annoying experience. Just wait to rent this one so you can watch it in the peacefulness of your own home. There were some thoughtful insights that remind you that even a child can teach you something.

My little brother went to this movie the other day with his buddies & he told me that the movie was ok, but it didn't really capture enough of the classic book (by the same name), so i'll rent this movie when it comes out on home video.

I thought the movie was good, but I thought Max was going to get eaten!!! Like in the beginning, when he first gets there, they were going to eat him, until he lied to them, saying that he has special powers. He's lucky they didn't ignore him and just rip him into pieces. I would give this a low Full Price. It was 75% for Adults, but some of it was definitely for kids. I couldn't really see adults doing some stuff that kids would actually do.

I didn't like the first 20 minutes of the film but after Max gets on the boat and goes to the island, the movie got better and I gave the film a mid-range MATINEE.

Just saw this... it was very good and I agree with Korey... the kid was a bit TO crazy. I loved alot of the voice acting was great. But i was a bit to dark, so its not exactly for the little kids. but Full Price in my opinion

So I read the book 2 weeks ago, then I saw the review, and I just saw the movie 2 hours ago. This movie is incredible. I do agree with the fact that in the middle of the movie a lot, I repeat, A LOT of nothing happens, but it ended exactly with how the book was trying to convey. The spirit of youth, and it was spot on all the time. There were times that I also thought it was too intense (Korey I agree with you) but it just made it much better for me, because it showed that the movie had vision and passion, and I consider it more of a pro than a con. I was having fun with it, the kid was perfect in every way, the music suited the mood changes incredibly well, the scenery was dynamic and beautiful. I would see this movie again, no doubt in my mind, I was happy I went to the movie, and 10, 20, 30 years from now, I still believe that it it was magical in it's own way. Your review was just making fun of the movie half the time and I didn't feel like it you were giving it enough credit. We might agree with the same issues, but the movie did more good than harm, and does not deserve a low Matinee. PS: Do not praise this movie better than sex, because it is not worthy of that either.

i can sorta understand the rating yall gave it. I think this movie will only apeal to an older teen audience and adults who were fans of the book hardcore like me. or if you had that troubling childhood and had that similar connection with maxfeeling misunderstood i personally loved the moive because i had that strong connection with as a child in many ways and basically the hidden message in the movie is life sucks and sometimes you wanna get away but only then to realize from your trouble theres gonna be someone whos still loves despite your wrong doings the only flaws i say this movie has is a couple scenes were not needed because i felt they its slowed the story down other then that its an average film to some but an awesome one too me

I totally agree with this review. It looked great, sounded great, had great acting... but it was meaningless. I won't go so far as to say the movie didn't have a plot, but it really didn't have any meaning. You didn't really get the ending you wanted, and that's why it really drags at the end, once you realize HOW its going to end. *SPOILER ALERT* Quite frankly, I would've given this film a Full Price had Max found a way to make the Wild Things happy, before leaving because he misses his mother. But as it stands, it almost feels like he totally gives up on them, which creates a very depressing and rather boring ending.

@Eli Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs definitely did not talk down to children. It is the first animated children's movie in a long time where there was basically no 'groaner' jokes. It was a great movie for adults and children.

Just as an FYI His folks are divorced. In the only line the sister has she says "I can't I'm at my dad's that week" on the phone. I loved the book as a child, this movie felt good to me but it did seem to get dark fast. There were points during the film my friends and I asked each other "Is this a children's movie?" I did wonder what this was going to look like as the book was so short but after having seen cloudy I knew that it could be done well. I loved how the only parts of the wild things were there face's (and I'm asuing the tails swishing) I did like how it was more serous and had parts for both kids and the older crowd that red this as a child. I gave the book to my nice last year but my sister in law thinks it to scary to read to her. I think the wild things did a good job showing Max's emotions and helped him to grow.

I'm really hoping all this doesn't spark a Watchmen-style revolt on the Spill Crew...but I'm going to have to say I didn't see Max as being a brat (but that's just me.) His sister's teenager friends accidentally hurt him while 'playing' and then left without apologizing. That's a very valid reason for Max to burst into a rage and wreck his sister's room like he does. That's just how kids are when they're hurt- I've been there many, many times. I don't think he was a brat; I just think that he was having a natural (and possibly unreasonable) breakdown due to all the stress going on in his life. His dad's out of the picture, he has next to no friends, and his mom barely pays attention to him. If I was under those circumstances, I'd be very tempted to take the same actions Max did. That's just what kids do. Would you rather have had him wander off into the forest after a quiet evening of dining with his mother? Of course not...Max's tantrum works as the catalyst that sets the entire film into motion. But then again, everybody's entitled to their own opinion. I personally loved it, it made me feel like a kid again...I thought it was wonderful. I'm not saying it bad or anything, but it was following a pretty strict formula. I haven't seen this film yet, but it should probably be given some credit for going against the grain.

Now I can see why you guys said that, and I can see why you might have gotten a little bored near the end, but that never really happened to me. I had fun watching all the crazy shenanigans that the Wild Things and Max went through, and when he decided to leave I kinda wanted him to stay, just so I can see some more of the crazy shit they would end up doing. I didn't feel it was too long, and I had just seen Zombieland with my brother before watching this film, so I had been in the theater for about a good 5 hours. I though the scenery and the effects were god damn amazing, and why is it god damn amazing Hollywood? It uses real effects, not just Computer graphics, which there was some of, but it was mostly a puppet. My favorites probably the giant bird, the two owls, and the raccoon. I thought the movie really captured how kids are, how kids think and really understands the way kids can act up and get out of control sometimes. Those monsters are there and acting like that to help Max realize how crazy he acts, and its mainly through the character Carroll. I thought it was the first really good children's fantasy film we've seen in a long time, and I really enjoyed myself watching it. I'm probably gonna see it again in theaters, I enjoyed it that much. I can also see why you said that about the soundtrack, I mean that occasional Karen O scream is kinda disturbing to hear sometimes; but it all fits in with whats happening and the environment. Also got to give her points for using a Daniel Johnston song, "Worried Shoes". Awesome. Overall I would give it a Full Price. I enjoyed the movie, I thought it was well made, well written, good soundtrack, and it even choked me up a bit when he left the island.

Reading through the comments I see that EVERYBODY (whether they rated it Rental, Matinee, Full Price or Better Than Sex) agrees on these three things: >* Max is a brat * The movie is beautiful and the effects are amazing * It drags in the middle or feels a little too long Even the people who love admit those things. So, why are so many of y'all mad at US?? Y'know, 'MATINEE' is not considered to be a bad rating. "I'm not gonna call you guys stupid but if you didn't have the same personal connection to this movie that I did , then..."
